Count down 13 of the 25 biggest moments from Ontario International Airport in 2025, from new flights to upgraded amenities to special events throughout the year.

What a year 2025 has been! We know it was challenging in many ways, from the devastating wildfires that kicked off 2025 to recently weathering the longest government shutdown in history. We’re proud of how our communities supported each other through it all. And we’re truly grateful for the thousands of workers and millions of passengers who continued to show up at Ontario International Airport with kindness, professionalism, humor and a sense of adventure.

We also have so much to celebrate from this year! But we managed to narrow it down to 25 highlights from your airport in 2025. Here are the first 13, in no particular order...

1. Race Raises Even More Money

ONT's 3rd annual 5K at the Runway drew more than 2,000 people and raised nearly $54,000 for our local USO. We’re aiming to shatter records with our upcoming 5K on February 14, 2026!

Runners wearing ONT bib numbers run under a blue, inflatable finish line as crowds look on.

2. New Airline Lands at ONT

STARLUX Airlines launched service at ONT in June, with nonstop flights to Taipei, Taiwan. The Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is STARLUX’s home base, making key destinations throughout Asia just one quick connection away for ONT travelers.

3. Agreement Funds Future Growth

Leaders in July adopted ONT’s first new use and lease agreement or ULA in 25 years, paving the way for future growth.

Tales of planes are seen sitting on the runway at ONT in the early morning light of a cloudy day.

New agreement balances financial sustainability with mutual growth and investment for both ONT and its airline partners.

4. Support Pours in for Crews

You stepped up to support our federal workers during the government shutdown this fall, with multiple vehicles full of food and supplies delivered to grateful TSA, ATC, USDA, CBP and FAM partners during our donation drive.

Three tall boxes are shown with signs on them asking for donations and donated items sticking out.

Boxes in ONT's administrative offices and in the terminals overflow with donated goods for federal workers.

5. Mexico Service Takes Off

Volaris added 14 weekly flights to Mexico in early July, with routes to Los Cabos (SJD), León (BJX) and Morelia (MLM). The announcement marked the largest one-day expansion in international service in ONT’s history!

6. CX Gets Global Recognition

We advanced to level two in ACI's Airport Customer Experience Accreditation program in July. Few airports worldwide have achieved this global recognition, highlighting the great work by our O.A.C.E.S. customer experience team.

7. Nonstop Connects to Major Hub

United Airlines launched daily nonstop service to Chicago (ORD) in May, our first to the airport that’s a major hub for the airline.

8. Staff Gets Green

ONT gave back to our local community by picking up trash and planting trees at a local park, making recycled art from outdated ONT marketing materials and learning to be better citizens of this planet during three days of Earth Day activities.

9. Terminals Get Major Upgrades

Our terminals saw some major improvements throughout the year with upgraded seating and signage, new ATMs, improved nursing rooms, interactive Discover IE kiosks and major progress on the TSA lane expansion project.

Rows of bright blue seats are shown in Terminal 4.

Comfortable new seats with charging stations and moveable tables are available in Terminal 4's East Wing.

10. Readers Choose Us

ONT in July was voted the best local airport in the 2025 Reader's Choice awards, hosted by the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, The Sun and the Redlands Daily Facts.

11. Wish Comes True

We helped Make-A-Wish make 15-year-old Jacob’s wish come true in May by giving him a VIP experience at ONT before the teen took off with his family on a dream trip to Hawaii.

ONT staff members wave signs welcoming Make-A-Wish with a red carpet leading into ONT.

13. Authors Connect with Travelers
