ONT Monument Sign

Regional Landmark Welcomes Visitors

A massive ONT monument sign at the main entrance to the airport campus creates an unmistakable sense of arrival for travelers and visitors alike.

What Happened & Why

For 27 years, a narrow, nondescript sign that spelled out “Ontario International Airport” greeted visitors as they entered the campus at Archibald Avenue and Airport Drive — that is, if they happened to notice the white marquee tucked away on the median.

The airport’s previous owner installed that sign back in 1998. But in 2016, we reclaimed your airport. And as we celebrated our first Decade of Local Control in 2026, it was time to spell it out so ONT visitors would know they had arrived at a revived airport that was ready for a BOLD future ahead.

The new monument sign features the iconic “ONT” airport code in towering, 12-foot letters crafted from durable sheet metal. The letters are backed by three rows of sculpted mountain forms inspired by the nearby San Gabriel Mountains, reinforcing ONT’s strong sense of place. The monument stretches roughly 60 feet across at its widest point, anchored by a deep concrete foundation that ensures its permanence for generations to come. A series of LED light bars illuminates the sign at night, with the ability to change colors for holidays, special events and community celebrations.

Timeline: The monument sign had been discussed for several years before a contract was approved in 2024. It was constructed at nearby Sign Industries over several months, then trucked to ONT for installation over several days. And the sign was unveiled to the public on January 21, 2026.

Benefits: The new monument sign establishes a strong sense of place for ONT and the broader Inland Empire. It stands boldly as a source of regional pride and a beacon of the airport’s continued ascent.
