Learn how ONT brings reading and travel together for all passengers.

For book lovers, having time to kill at an airport or on a plane ride can be a gift, since it means guilt-free time to shrink that to-be-read pile and read just ONE. MORE. CHAPTER.

Ontario International Airport knows reading and traveling go together like chips and salsa. So the airport is committed to offering unique amenities and programs that champion literacy, celebrate local authors and help passengers travel through great trips and great stories.

Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, with your family or solo, start by reading this story to learn about all the ways ONT can help you can combine your passion for reading and travel!

Visit the Short Story Dispenser

Don't want to commit to reading an entire book? As part of ONT’s mission to enhance the travel experience with literacy-focused initiatives, we bring you the Short Story Dispenser!

This clever machine, located near the security screening area in both terminals, allows you to personalize your short story choice based on length or genre. Then it quickly prints out a copy on a long, thin sheet of paper that looks a bit like one of those infamous pharmacy receipts. And you get to take the story with you for free to enjoy in the airport or on the plane!

Using the Short Story Dispenser is almost as much fun as reading the stories it shoots out, which makes this another family-friendly airport amenity that can keep children entertained during your travels.

Attend an Authors at ONT Event

ONT is proud to host a quarterly program called Authors at ONT, where we bring local authors to our terminals.

If you’re traveling through ONT at the time or come visit using our ONT+ Visitor Pass Program, you'll get the chance to meet the featured author, take photos and have your book signed. Often, the first group of visitors get a signed copy of the featured book for free!

Past authors featured in this series have included Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Devon Kennard and Terry Steele.

We also occasionally offer other travel-friendly book programs, such as when CEO Atif Elkadi read to young people in our terminals during our So Cal. So Jolly Fest holiday celebration in December.

California Science Center at ONT is shown, featuring a dark room with round seating in the middle and large screens on the walls showing footage of the museum's kelp forest.

The California Science Center space in Terminal 4 is a quiet, cozy spot for reading on a tablet or with a small book light.

Find a Great Spot to Read

Once you have some great reading material, there are lots of places around ONT that are great for hunkering down with a book while you wait for your flight.

  • Aspire Lounge: You don't have to be a member of an exclusive frequent flyer program to spend time in the Aspire Lounge located in both of our terminals. You can simply buy a day pass or see if your credit card offers free access. The lounges offer comfortable areas to relax, complimentary food and drinks, fast Wi-Fi, private restrooms and excellent views of our busy airfield.
  • California Science Center: In summer 2024, ONT partnered with California Science Center to open its first-ever immersive satellite site inside Terminal 4, near Gate 408. The first of many exhibits brings the L.A. museum's 188,000-gallon Kelp Forest to ONT. Light is low, so this one is probably best for digital readers. But it makes for a tranquil space to enjoy that book!
  • Seat With a View: Grab a south-facing seat near your gate. The lighting is great and the views of the runways create a peaceful place to focus.
  • Sip and Read: Like a coffee with your book? Grab one from Dunkin’ or pull up a chair inside Einstein Bros. Bagels. Prefer to pair your book with a glass or beer or wine? Find a seat at Brewery X or Liquid Provisions!

Enjoy a Literacy-Forward Airport Experience

These innovative amenities and programs are aimed at creating a welcoming travel hub and an engaging, educational environment for everyone at ONT.

Readers, next time you fly through the airport or visit using an ONT+ Visitor Pass, we hope you can explore these options. And if you love them, don’t forget to share your experiences and tag @flyONT on social media!
