(Ontario, California – December 21, 2017) - Ontario International Airport (ONT) posted robust gains in both passenger and cargo volumes in November, continuing its run of steady month-over-month increases since its transition to local control a year ago.
The total number of inbound and outbound customers who traveled through ONT last month rose to more than 410,000, an increase of 8.5% over November 2016. For the first 11 months of the year, ONT welcomed 4.1 million customers, 6.8% more than the same period in 2016.
November was the first full calendar month of operations for Frontier Airlines, which initiated service at ONT in mid-October.
Air cargo including freight and mail shipments at ONT continued to show remarkable growth totaling more than 61,000 tons in November, 20.8% higher than the same month in 2016. From January through November this year, cargo volume exceeded 582,000 tons, an increase of 15.5% over the same period last year.
“The confidence index continues to rise month-over-month, driving our determination to create a world-class gateway at ONT,” said Mark Thorpe, chief executive officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority.
“Our customers are showing their preference for our airport and services by coming back in greater numbers, helping to transform ONT into a popular destination and hub for business in Southern California.”
